The project

This project was curated by Emmanuel Agbeli, a master drummer from Ghana, and Director of the Dagbe Cultural Institute and Arts Center. Viewcy sent a camera and microphones, helped trained a few young people interested in film from within the music community there, and provided the funding for them to record full length performances by 6 troupes from the Aflao Traditional Area. The music and dance that was sent back is mind-blowing.

This event is a way for us in NYC to come together and experience this music along side brilliant local performers who will share their art with all of us.

The mission

Viewcy Sessions are about discovering and promoting traditional musics of the world, as curated by the master musicians of those cultures. To pay tribute to the performers with a meaningful income ticket revenue is divided into three parts: One part is sent to Africa to pay the participants in the film, one part is retained to support the ecosystem, and one part goes into our Universal Creator Income Fund, to pay for the next Session.

The hosts

This event will be hosted by Robert Levin, Ehren Hanson, and REFOREST (Greg Kieser!). The film is narrated and curated by Emmanuel Agbeli.
