It is played to honour and hail heroes, heroines, notable personalities and prominent people. It originates from the royal kingdoms in Ghana,Togo and Benin. The Akans in Ghana are noted for playing the drum at festivals, funerals and other occasions. In other parts of West Africa, it is also used to announce information or send signals to the community. The creative and innovative Amenuveve Cultural Troupe from Aflao in the Ketu South Municipality of Ghana, uses these drums to perform a lot of dance moves and drum beats. We hope you will enjoy watching this video. AGBEKOR Agbekor is a dance noted for its vigorous war gestures and moves. This dance originated from the Fon tribe from Benin. Ewes in Ghana and Togo are noted for performing this dance nowadays, mostly played at funerals, festivals and other occasions. ADZIDAVI and ADZOGBO The Adzidavi is a diminished form of the master drum in Eweland called Atsimevu. The Amenuveve Cultural Troupe uses this small Atsimevu, mostly used in Benin and Togo, to play unique drum beats and perform numerous dance moves. The Adzogbo dance is another type of warrior dance, originally from Benin. It also involves calls and dance moves which unite three main religious groups, namely African Traditional Religion, Christianity and Islam. It can be performed by both genders at festivals, marriage ceremonies and other events. DJUN DJUN BAFE This is a dance performed by a drum called Breketevu in the Eweland of Togo and Ghana. The Breketevu is used to perform a dance with fantastic dance moves and patterns. Ghana, Togo, Mali, Senegal and Guinea are noted for performing this dance. It entertains people at graduations, festivals and other occasions. VIVINA In the Ewe dialect from Ghana, vivina means "it is sweet". This is a dance created by the Amenuveve Cultural Troupe with a variety of dance moves. The form of the dance fits all programs and it is performed with one or two handkerchiefs in the hands of the dancers. TSEBE (AGELE) The Tsebe dance, popularly known as Agele, involves the climbing of tall sticks. It is believed that before you climb these stilts, you have to undergo some spiritual rituals and fortification. There are two schools of thought concerning this performance. 1. The first has it that the tall stick was designed as a result of how dwarfs went high into the sky after being seen by a set of hunters on a hunting expedition in the forest. But because of the curious nature of the hunters, this stick was designed to meet the height of the dwarfs. 2. Another says that the sticks were designed by the people of Atakpame in Togo with the purpose of escaping from enemies who always attack them unexpectedly. Seeing these sticks as the solution to their problems, they climb the tall sticks in the forest to foresee their enemies from far away and to inform or signal their people about the intruders by using the sticks to hit one another while they escape. This eventually became a god or deity in Atakpame and still is until today. But as it has been said that with God all things are possible, the Amenuveve Cultural Troupe members were able to train and climb these sticks without any spiritual backing or fortification or incantation. Amenuveve!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unity is strength and victory.
