ABOUT
Purnesh Bhagwat was born in a family of traditional and established musicians in the holy city of Varanasi. He has had a total of thirteen years of training in vocals. He started his training in the artform of Tabla of the Banaras gharana at the age of three under his father Pt. Pundalik Bhagwat ji who himself is a famous and established Tabla player and a vocalist as well. From the age of ten he started training in Hindustani classical vocals for nine years under his father. Alongside this, he is also training in the complex style of singing known as Tappa under his uncle Dr. Shri Ramchandra Bhagwat ji. He is currently taking advanced training in Hindustani classical vocals at Vishwashanti Gurukul situated at MIT, Pune under the great doyen of classical music Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar ji from 2017 onwards. Awards and Acknowledgements • He has been awarded the CCRT (Centre for Cultural Research and Training) scholarship from the year 2018 to 2020 under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. • He was placed first at the national music competition held at Valsad, Gujarat in 2013 by Sangeet Sankalp. • He was placed second in the event called Voice of Uttar Pradesh held by Sangeet Milon in Lucknow in 2012. • In the year 2009 he won the state level competition organized by Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Academy. Noteworthy Performances • Chandramauleshwar Swar Sangeet Sabhaa, Pune, 2019. • MIT World Peace University Global Seminar, Kothrud, Pune, 2018. • Performed at a concert organized by the Maharashtra Samaj, Jabalpur in 2016. • Performed at a concert organized by the Maharashtra Samaj, Lucknow in2015 • Maha Mrityunjay Mahotsav held at Nagari Natak Mandali Varanasi in 2015 and 2011. • Given performances at the stage of the Subah-e-Banaras at Assi ghat, Varanasi in 2019 and 2016. • Performed at the prestigious Ganga Mahotsav, Varanasi in 2012. • Regularly performs at the annual Ram Janmotsav held during Ramnavami at Shri Kaleram Mandir Trust, Ayodhya. • Regularly performs at the annual Janmashtami Celebrations held at the Sant Gnyaaneshwar Atmotthaan Kendra, Lucknow. • His first ever stage performance was held at the Guruvaasariya weekly concert series held at the Faculty of Performing Arts, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi in 2009. Apart from the abovementioned, Purnesh has also performed in cities like Kota, Tatanagar, e.t.c.
