ABOUT
Camila Celin, born in Bogota, Colombia, migrated to the US at 18 years old. With a ferocious passion for life, extraordinary discipline for music practice, and a natural talent for organizing people, she has created a blossoming career as a musician, composer, and event producer. She performed in events and festivals throughout the world including Jazz Plaza in Havana Cuba, Lincoln Center, KolkataJazz Fest, Celebrate Brooklyn, Madison Square Garden and many others. While best known for her virtuosic guitar playing, in the last 14 years she has become a remarkable Sarod player. Guided by several of the most revered maestros from India, she has grown into a brilliant Sarod player in her own right. She is a two time Grammy nominee, and a force in the NYC music scene. Camila co- founded Brooklyn Raga Massive, which became a Global Organization that has had residencies in venues like the Lincoln Center, Rubin Museum, the MET, the MoMa and many more. She curates music for multiple festivals and venues in NY. One of them is YRSL (You Are So Lucky - a Festival that pulls over 9000 people.) She also hosts a bimonthly concert series called RASA where she hosts all kinds of world music acts that serve as an incubation for many more projects and cultural collaborations. Here is some of the things the press has said about Camila’s work: “Grammy nominated Guitarist Camila Celin strums elegant classical tempos, occasionally sustaining violent bursts of flamenco with inhuman endurance, all while gracefully poised in her chair.” - The West County News “Her playing is profound unique, commanding, luminary. She plays a nylon string, flamenco style, with all these different techniques, modal scales… She is a well trained classical guitarist who also has the ability to improvise…” Gayle Olson- Director of Hilltown music. “I was especially amazed at the guitar playing of Camila. I couldn’t keep my eyes off the way her fingers were moving on that guitar like cutting hot butter.” Roy Knowles - Director of Recovery of Spirit
