ABOUT
Abanti Bhattacharjee is an internationally known gifted singer of this generation and a rising star in the horizon of the Indian Classical Music. Her matured yet rare voice quality sets her apart from her contemporaries. Born in a Bengali family, Abanti was inspired by her Parents to pursue classical music and she started her training at the age of nine under the guidance of Vidushi Purabi Ganguly, who was a disciple of the legendary vocalist Sangeetacharya Tarapada Chokroborty. She strengthened Abanti’s foundation in Indian classical music for several years.Later she came under the tutelage of Sangeetacharya's daughter, Gyan Swaraswati Vidushi Shreela Bandopadhyay, and gradually became popular in the musical field. She also had taken talim as a disciple of Vidushi Purnima Sen, one of the most senior exponents of Agra Atrauli Gharana. Abanti completed her post-graduate degree in vocal Classical from Rabindra Bharati University with first Class degree in the year of 2002. During this time, she took part in a few musical competitions and won many prizes before she was finally awarded the National Scholarship for vocal classical by the Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource and Development in the year of 2002. Apart from her mainstream pure classical talim, she was also very fond of semi classical and light classical vocal music and to master this area of music, she took training from Vidushi Dalia Rahut, a senior disciple of Great Maestro Vidushi Girija Devi and she proved herself as an exponent of Purab Ang Gyaki. Abanti was awarded 'Girija Devi Puraskar' twice, first time in the year of 2013.Second time for her excellent performance in 'Purab Ang Gayaki Utsab', she was awarded the highest prestigious ‘SARVOTTAM KALAKAR-GIRIJA DEVI AWARD’ in the year of 2017, New Delhi. She received this award from the lotus hand of the legendary Padmabibhushan Girija Devi ji whom she considered her MargDarshak on the way of her musical journey and got blessings for continues her legacy next. Abanti has been associated with Rabindra Bharati University as an external examiner. She is a regular performer of All India Radio. Around the year she performs in many prestigious concerts and workshops across the country. Abanti’s wholehearted dedication to Indian classical music is a testimony of her dexterity in this form of music. She has all the potential to elevate Indian classical music to a different league and give it a place of pride in world music.
