Shane Mauss is an award-winning 22 year comedian (Conan, Kimmel, Comedy Central, Prime) with a fondness for interviewing scientists about the oddities of human behavior and how the mind works.
After early success on late-night and traditional stand-up, he became passionate about turning what he was learning into solo shows that blend science-inspired philosophy with comedy.

Past and current show themes include animal mating behavior, mental health, consciousness, adaptations, cognitive errors, biology, and AI.

Myth Understandings is a heady brand new show that explores how evolution has shaped the human mind for storytelling. Traveling back to the adaptation in smaller brains in other species, to hunter-gathers, to ancient mythology, to history of science.

This show uses a mix of comedy, science, and philosophy to explore what happens when modernity and counterintuitive discoveries turn astrology to astronomy, myths to mental models, why a 200 thousand year old hunter-gather brain is suddenly thrust into a technologically dependent, rapidly-changing modern world that is drastically different than the four billion years of life on earth has ever been. And yet making scientific literacy fun for adults and part of a lifelong process can absolutely increase our chances of making the most of this bizarre experience.

The show features LIVE visual projections by Michael Strauss (straussvisuals.com) that takes everything into a whole new dimension. Shane and Michael have created a unique approach that uses a constantly evolving mix of art and animation to explain and enhance the comedic experience.

You are invited to explore a whole universe of 360 fulldome audiovisual adventures and multisensory experiences, before and after the show.

A NOTE: We have been tinkering with this show for nearly a year, but this will be the first time performing it live. If you are looking for a perfectly polished show, watch the new special TRIPS online and perhaps wait for next year when we bring Myth Understandings back to LA.
