Suromurchhana's 2022 Online Annual Music Festival honors our Gurus Late Pt. A Kanan and Late Vidushi Malabika Kanan. It is also 101st birthday celebration of Late Pt. A Kanan.

2022 Online Festival was taped before live audience in Kolkata on the eve of Pt. A. Kanan's birthday.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
Shri Dhananjay Hegde is a young and talented Hindustani classical vocalist. A child prodigy, he began learning music at the age of four from his mother Smt. Geeta Hegde. His father, Sri G.S. Hegde tabla player. Later, Dhananjay was fortunate enough to have trained under Pt. Venkatesh Kumar from Dharwad, for a while. In 1989, he joined Pt. Vinayak Torvi for advanced learning and underwent rigorous training under Panditji in the Gurukul tradition. One of the interesting aspects of Dhananjay’s music is the blend of Kirana and Gwalior Gharana, which he has imbibed from his Guru. Dhananjay aspires to be a honest musician and to follow in the footsteps of maestros of yesteryear.

Shri Soumen Sarkar is a tabla virtuoso who was a disciple of Late Pt Anand Bodas and a grand-disciple of the tabla nawaz Ameer Hussain Khan of the Laliyana Gharana. He has developed himself, imbibing in the technique and style of his guru. He has made his name known in the global arena as a solo performer and accompanist as well. A versatile artist, Soumen is equally at home accompanying khayal, thumri and ghazal, as he is with instrumental music. This ability to switch genres has made him a popular accompanist with leading musicians of Indian classical music.

Shri Subhajyoti Guha, a highly talented tabla player, and is one of the NEW GENRE of tabla exponents who are taking this world of North Indian percussion instrument to greater heights in the 21st century. Subhajyoti was introduced to tabla at an early age by his father Dr. Smriti Ranjan Guha, and a few years later tabla maestro Pt. Sankha Chatterjee, a disciple of late Ustad Keramatullah Khan and late Ustad Allarakha Khan of Punjab Gharana, took Subhajyoti under his tutorship. Through his performances Subhajyoti has won the hearts of his listeners and his talent has also been acknowledged by maestros.

Shri Somnath Roy is among the few north Indian musicians who have studied the South Indian style of rhythm structures, calculations and most importantly the art of playing the earthen clay pot GHATAM which is an exclusive percussion instrument of the South Indian classical music. With his widened knowledge in multi-percussion and rich orchestrating experience Somnath is giving the art of percussion a new aesthetic touch. His unbridled urge to explore beyond frontier of Hindustani laya system took him to Pandit Sri S. Shekar, the legendary Mridangam maestro of Kolkata after initiating Somnath into fundamentals and intricacies of laya of Carnatic percussion for a couple of years, Pandit Shekar advised Somnath to learn unique art of ghatam playing from Shri V Suresh. Somnath has accompanied legendary Indian classical musicians as well as worked with legendary film directors and collaborated with international artists from the across the world.

Shri Hiranmay Mitra started learning tabla, vocal Music and harmonium from his childhood. His training in tabla began under Pt. Sanjay Mukherjee, vocal classical from Shri Arun Chatterjee and Pt. A. Kanan. Hiranmay is a graded artist of All India Radio in Tabla, vocal and Harmoniam. He has achieved the opportunity to accompanied with many of the graded artist.
