This galère gathering isn’t simply about the poems, but also the poet’s muse, how the verse came to be. So, if writers write to expose themselves and actors act to hide themselves . . . poets pose as spiritual coroners—examining both the living and the dead—via self-evisceration. A psychic operation that allows the assemblage to decide if the work’s DNA is that of an archangel . . . or Frankenstein.

Our February readers are Ifetayo Cobbins, Joe Fox & Bobby Miller

Ifetayo Cobbins grew up in Hudson on and around Allen Street. Ifetayo is an accomplished painter and poet, one who examines the power of black women and viewing things through another lens. She accepts the challenge to share in a way people can understand and while her intent is not to sting, her words scream out, why is no one seeing this? Ifetayo also explores the current climate of Hudson and her experiences with discrimination, her feelings towards the changes on Warren Street, and fears of displacement amongst specific populations. For the last two years, she has worked at the Lili and Loo store on Warren Street.

Joe Fox is a MacDowell Fellow and creative director. He is currently working on a memoir about his muddled relationship with his father, a lifelong bartender at the fabled Algonquin Hotel, and how he came to know him through the lens of a cocktail glass.

Bobby Miller is a performance poet, writer, actor, and photographer. He is the author of four poetry books, and has been published in numerous magazines, periodicals, and anthologies. Spoken Word appearances include Lincoln Center, Whitney Museum, The Smithsonian Institute, LaMama, The Kitchen, and The Massachusetts State Poetry Festival. He has also performed internationally both with poet John Giorno and solo at venues including The Tabernacle, The ICA, and Battersea Arts Centre (London), and The Glasgow Center for the Arts (Scotland). Mr. Miller makes his home in Egremont, MA.
