Harry Bolick, with the Mississippi Travelers string band, will celebrate the publication his new book, “Fiddle Tunes from Mississippi, Commercial and Informal Recordings 1920-2018" with a concert of these tunes from dawn of country music.
A short presentation and signing at 4pm will precede the concert at 4:30pm.
Copies of the book will be available.
Elegant posters of the period musicians will surround the hall.

Over ten years ago, author, fiddler and researcher Harry Bolick began a labor of love, tracking down every last bit of Mississippi fiddling history and music. Internet detective work combined with thousands of miles driving to remote parts of the state for interviews has produced this second book to complete documenting the tradition.”
The old-time music from Mississippi is a branch of the Appalachian tradition but with its own distinctive flair and rhythm. You will hear tunes with a touch of the blues, songs of longing and loss and just plain quirky pieces with names like, “Who’s Been Giving You Corn?,” “Sweet Milk and Peaches,” “Tequila Hop Blues.” As part of the effort to keep this fiddle dialect “walking and talking”, the Travelers also perform some of Harry’s tunes which are newly composed, but in the old Mississippi style.

Holder grants permission to the organization sponsoring the event for which this ticket is issued to utilize Holder’s image or likeness in connection with any video or other transmission or reproduction of the event to which this ticket relates.
