Brooklyn Maqam is an organization dedicated to presenting Middle Eastern (in particular, Arabic) music, with the goals of expanding its audience, preserving it as an art form, and building community centered around the music.

Musicsmiths and Melody Makers
Insia Malik and seasoned artists in the New York Arabic music scene present a wide-ranging program of music by notable 20th-century and contemporary performer-composers, such as Muhammad ‘Abdu Salih, Marcel Khalife, ‘Abdu Daghir, Riad al-Sunbati, and Ruhi al-Khammash.
Insia Malik is a Brooklyn-based violinist who performs regularly with the National Arab Orchestra, New York Arabic Orchestra, Umm Kulthum Workshop, and an array of ensembles in New York City and beyond. She maintains a private violin studio at the United Nations International School, and is an Assistant Editor at Répertoire International de Littérature Musicale (RILM). Insia holds a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology from the Graduate Center at the City University of New York.
