Blowgun is a traditional music fusion project based in New Orleans, founded by fiddler Miriam Hacksaw and pandeirista Rye Oommen. Centered around old time fiddle tunes and samba percussion, their music recognizes the proletarian and anti-colonial origins of both styles. Rye and Miriam are siblings of Malayali descent, and also perform family songs in Malayalam from their motherland of Kerala, India. While not tied to a specific genre, Blowgun finds a unique sound in solidarity across ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
Miriam and Rye are siblings, and grew up in Eugene, Oregon where they were first introduced to the banjo and fiddle. They also tour with Jason Webley as the live band for the Flotsam River Circus.
