It is very rare that a Netflix show can be a call to action but that is precisely what happened to us. We chanced upon the documentary ‘Daughters of Destiny’ and it had a profound impact on us. The school featured on the show, Shanti Bhavan, is a residential school in Tamil Nadu, India that aims to break the cycle of systemic generational poverty through educational intervention for underserved children from South India. We were moved by what we saw and were motivated to do something to help further its mission. You can learn more about this institution at www.shantibhavanchildren.org or by watching the show.

Through our non-profit, DeHa Foundation, we are organizing a fundraiser show and dinner to help raise money for this institution. The show will attempt to reflect Shanti Bhavan’s values through the story of the garment that symbolizes India more than any other, the Saree.

“Timeless Drapes: Embracing the Legacy of the Saree” is a grand show that will entertain and educate you while unfolding through narration, fashion, dance, music and audio-visuals to celebrate this most Indian of attires, its splendor, history and evolution. A full dinner is included (cash bar available). We will also hold a silent auction of exclusive sarees, conduct a pledge drive and have vendors on hand for your shopping pleasure. It will be an evening of entertainment and community with the aim of raising money for a good cause.

A sentence about Shanti Bhavan that struck a chord with us is - “When an action is taken for good, the world changes for good.”
