The Batman mythos get a radical, queer, coming of age reinvention in
The People's Joker, the hilariously irreverent indie smash hit from queer filmmaker and Emmy-nominated alt-comedy editor Vera Drew. When a closeted trans girl and aspiring comedian (played by Drew) struggles to find success in Gotham City, she teams up with fellow stand-up The Penguin to open an underground alt-comedy spot on the fringes of town. As she embraces her gender identity and falls for another Joker on the scene, she is soon pitted against both the corporate forces of a certain Gotham vigilante as well as her own inner demons.
