THE HURDY GURDY FOLK MUSIC CLUB at the Fair Lawn Community Center opens their 2023-2024 season with the Fabulous Limeliters!

When music fans remember ‘60s folk music, they remember the iconic songs of the Limeliters. After six decades and 25+ albums – including three top 10 – the trio still brings American folk classics into the modern age, with high energy, thrilling three-part harmonies, and zany humor.

Award-winning singer-songwriters Andy Corwin, Steve Brooks, and Daniel Boling carry on the signature vocal sound of founders Lou Gottlieb, Alex Hassilev, and Glenn Yarbrough.

Their concert programs transport baby boomers of all ages into a musical time machine, as they mix historical songs like 'There’s a Meetin’ Here Tonight,' 'John Henry' and 'Wabash Cannonball' with ‘60s standards like 'If I Had a Hammer' and 'Those Were the Days.' They include 'Take My True Love by the Hand,' which racked up more than 1 million YouTube views after appearing in the TV hit 'Breaking Bad.' Today’s Limes tour coast-to-coast, and increasingly around Texas, including halls like the Brauntex and the Point Theatre and four appearances at the Kerrville Folk Festival.

As Time Magazine puts it, 'If the Kingston Trio are the undergraduates of big-time folk singing, the Limeliters are the faculty.'

The Limeliters are:
Andy Corwin is the veteran of the group — and the only member to have performed with original Limeliters Alex Hassilev and Glenn Yarbrough. Back in the 90’s, he was the long haired, scraggly bass player of “The Foremen”, a folk music / comedy quartet best remembered for clever and literate political satire.Andy was a winner of the 2005 New Folk Songwriting Competition at the Kerrville Folk Festival with his songs Cowboy by Day/ Ballerina by Night and The Agnostic Gospel Song.

Steve Brooks is a classic Texas troubadour who mixes storytelling, humor, heartbreak and cracker-barrel philosophy, his songs have been recorded by more than a dozen Americana artists, like Slaid Cleaves, Christine Albert and Russell Crowe. He wrote a song-a-week for Jim Hightower’s nationally-syndicated radio show and appeared on TV’s “I’ve Got a Secret” as six-time World Pun Champion.

The newest member of the trio is balladeer/songwriter C. Daniel Boling, who is a past winner of the prestigious Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk songwriter contest and other songwriting honors including the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival, Walnut Valley Festival, Santa Fe Bluegrass and Old Time Festival and more. A Park Ranger and Criminal Investigator in National Parks and Public Lands throughout the western U.S.A. for 30 years, since 2008 he has toured coast-to-coast and overseas in over one hundred shows a year in house concerts, listening rooms, theatres and festivals. Daniel grew up on traditional folk music and the folk songs of the 60s.
