== BIOS & CONTEXT ==
LEAH SONG
Born into a musical family from Georgia, Leah Song is a storyteller, song-catcher, musician, poet, and community builder known primarily for her role as front-woman of Rising Appalachia, alongside her sister Chloe.
As a soloist she incorporates sultry vocals, storytelling, folklore, ballads and boleros into her laid back troubadour performances. Her music is based in the traditions of Southern soul, the diasporic music of the Celtic Isles and her deep studies of traditional folk music from across the Americas .
She has studied and worked alongside some of the greatest teachers and culture keepers of our time... including Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés, Bobby Mc Ferin, Martin Hayes, Martin Shaw, Joanna Macy, Winona LaDuke, Guadelupe Urbina, Sobunfu Some, and Rosemary Gladstar to name a few... Join her in gathering tools and teachings of resiliency, music, mythology, and celebration through sound.
Come dance and sway alongside us...
CASTANEA
Under the alias CASTANEA, David Brown of Rising Appalachia brings his musical versatility to the forefront, combining acoustic and electronic elements. Known for his skills on the upright bass and baritone guitar, Brown also excels in turntables and production, creating a sound that is as immersive as it is innovative.
The name CASTANEA, referring to a tree species reviving from near extinction in North America's eastern forests, symbolizes the rejuvenation and transformation present in his music. This project showcases his ability to weave traditional sounds with contemporary beats, crafting tracks that resonate with a wide array of listeners.

== A NOTE ON PRICING, ACCESSIBILITY & REFUNDS ==
Our finances work differently than other venues. We are small, independent and non-alcoholic space, which means we have to charge more for tickets to make our numbers work.
We love producing shows for the community -- and it's financially risky. We value both accessibility for the community and paying our artists & crew what they ask, while caring for the land as well. It's a continuous balancing act.
Some of our shows are sliding scale starting at $30. A few times a year we host higher ticket productions which are a key part of how our community supports itself.
==> Low on cash?
If you’d like to join us but are low on cash, please email us at
[email protected] &
let us know what you CAN offer.
We reserve discounted spots available for those who need them, including BIPOC & economically disadvantaged groups.
==> Can you support?
Conversely, if you are in abundance & can offer extra, there is an option for an optional "GRATUITY" on the ticket page.
A $5 tip is automatically added but can be adjusted up, down or removed. Tips are shared equally amongst the community crew who produce the event. Thank you for helping make this dream work!
==> Financial Transparency
We know coming to our shows is an investment, of both your time and money. Here is a rough breakdown of where your money goes when you buy a ticket.
Of a $55 ticket (assuming 125 tickets sold)
$29 goes to the artists
$11 to the Hawk's community crew
$11 to the venue
$3.30 covers credit card & ticketing fees
$.70 covers misc. expenses including fire wood, paper & cleaning products
==> REFUNDS & RESALE: Refunds are not available. If you wish to re-sell, we recommend using the Facebook event page associated with this show. The Hawk also moderates a Telegram group. If you are buying tickets from people online, *please check with us first* to make sure they are genuine. Ticket scammers are becoming increasingly common on social platforms. We will not refund a ticket if you are scammed!
