Ecstatic dance is a form of freeform movement where participants let go of inhibitions and dance to the rhythm of the music without following any structured steps or routines. It's a way to express oneself authentically through movement in a supportive and non-judgmental environment.

Ecstatic Dance Nyack's program features six key components:
  1. Opportunities to meet fellow community members and strengthen relationships at the start and end of each event.
  2. A dance warm-up that prepares the body and spirit for an evening of dance and somatic exploration.
  3. An extended set of curated dance music.
  4. A meditative sound healing experience to bring restoration after lively dancing.
  5. Complimentary fresh fruit and water, plus organic, locally-foraged beverages and snacks for sale from local artisans.
  6. A non-denominational altar to facilitate introspection and affirmation of one's own personal values, memories, aspirations, and intentions.

ECSTATIC DANCE NYACK GUIDLINES
  1. First, Dance with Yourself: If you choose to dance with others, do so from a place of giving, not taking.  All physical contact with fellow dancers must be consensual. Consent is Freely Given, Reversible, Informed, Enthusiastic, and Specific (FRIES). To separate from a dance partner,  you can show hands in prayer to signal your  respectful departure.
  2. No Alcohol: Movement is medicine. The spirit of alcohol is not welcome at Ecstatic Dance Nyack. To maintain a space of sensitivity, authentcity, awareness, and clarity, we invite you to experience the depths of your own being without alcohol. Plant medicine is welcome only if used privately, respectfully and responsibly.  No smoking within 50 feet of the premises.
  3. No Speaking: Ecstatic Dance empowers participants to explore and express themselves with movement and body language. The cessation of speech unblocks wellsprings of feeling and emotion that are otherwise limited by words. Connect with yourself and others in a new way.
  4. No Phones: Havent you spent enough time looking at it already?
  5. No Photography or Video: What happens here stays here. To allow for fully authentic expression and exploration of our deepest emotions, free from all forms of shame and guilt, participants can be assured that their experience will never be known outside the walls of Ecstatic Dance Nyack.
  6. No Shoes: To stay grounded, protect everyone’s feet, and maintain cleanliness, please do not wear shoes on the dance floor. Socks and special indoor-only dance shoes are permitted.
  7. Be Yourself: This is a judgment-free zone. Allow your body the freedom to move however it needs. All ranges of emotion and expression are welcome here, from joy to sorrow, and everything else. Let movement and music guide you to feel and display every part of yourself. All of you is welcome here.

About DJ FlavYa:
Flavya, or DJ FlavYa is a Brazilian-American dual-citizen DJ. Born in Europe, raised in both the United States and Brazil, Flavya is no stranger to multicultural experiences, living in diverse neighborhoods and being exposed to many different music communities. She currently resides in New York City. In 2009, while she was pursuing her bachelor’s degree in business administration at Manhattan College, she saw an online advertisement for the Scratch DJ Academy intensive DJ training course. Flavya saw it as an opportunity to pursue one of her life long dreams: the second she put her hands on the turntables she realized that she had discovered her true passion. This led her to study the art of mixing and scratching in NYC and after completing their program, she was invited to join the teaching staff.

She has since developed her own teaching programs for DJing and music production and continues to teach / mentor upcoming DJs independently and institution partnerships. Aside from performing and teaching, Flavya spends her time digging for 70s & 80s vinyl records, creating remixes and edits of classic tracks.

Her music style centers around classic Disco, Soul, Funk, Brazilian, Latin, World Music, Pop and other tropical swing & grooves. Over the past twelve years, she has performed at many club &  festivals in Brazil and the United States, such as Kingston Club, Heavy House, Coala Festival, Nublu Jazz Fest, Vento Festival & Virada Cultural in São Paulo, Festival Sonido in Belém, RecBeat stage of Carnival in Recife, Ecstatic Dance & Music Sessions in Florianópolis, in NYC at Gospel, The Assemblage, The Good Room, Sultan Room, amongst others

The Altar
Curated by Jazmine Rose, the altar is a place to sit quietly, meditate, laugh, wonder, cry, draw... whatever you need to support your ecstatic dance journey.

There will be a community journal with markers that you are welcome to draw or write in, Oracle card decks that you can pull cards from, and many sacred plants and objects for you to energetically commune with.

You are all welcome to contribute your own sacred objects to the altar as well. If you do bring an offering, please remember to take it before you leave.

About Jazmine Rose
Jazmine is an artist, experience designer and dancer who fell in love with ecstatic dance in 2022 in Mt Shasta, California. During her time there she was introduced to several somatic therapy modalities such as Aguahara, singing medicine, sacred collage and contact improv. She is now committed to sharing this wisdom and helping people reconnect with the sanctity of movement, touch, and creativity as a pathway to healing!

The practice of altar building was passed to Jazzy by several medicine women and healers that she met while living nomadically on the West Coast.
