Wouldn’t it be great to just get up every Sunday morning and SING? Well, here we go! In these winter months, weekly communal singing is a wonderful way to warm the spirit. We'll start with a few country, old-time, shapenote, and blues songs, and continue to draw from various harmony traditions from the US and around the world, making it all the way to doo wop and contemporary harmony styles, which will give us room for people who want to pop out and sing a solo. Every session will begin with a warm-up that emphasizes various aspects of vocal technique with the goal of feeling free, open, and ready to sing. We'll do some round and part singing as a group, and then dive into harmony singing. We'll work on the tools that get you harmonizing with ease, with a combination of ear training, picking out harmonies by ear, singing arrangements in different styles, improvising harmonies in the moment, and incorporating tips for vocal technique that help us make the music really sing.
There will be some notation for learning purposes, although reading music is not required. This class is ideal for people who would like some vocal tips and technique ideas, want to improve their ear-training skills and harmony chops, love to sing with others, or who just want to sing! Designed for beginning through intermediate-level singers, but will be tailored to offer something for everyone. Please email
