Sacred steel is a unique genre of American music that developed in Black Pentecostal churches in the Southeastern United States and has since become a worldwide phenomenon thanks to extraordinary musicians like Robert Randolph, Darick Campbell, Chuck Campbell, Aubrey Ghent, Calvin Cooke, and the Lee Boys.
This workshop, conducted by Calvin Cooke and Kashiah Hunter (with special guests), will give participants a chance to explore how to incorporate some of the classic elements of sacred steel into their own playing: using your instrument to mimic a human voice, developing an improvisation, playing fills behind a vocalist, and how to accompany singers and steel players on guitars, keys, bass, and drums.
Cost: $25
Duration: 90 Minutes
Saturday, July 9, 11 am
Open to Musicians and Singers of all experience levels and ALL INSTRUMENTS—steel players welcome but this is not exclusively for steel guitarists.
