Jonah Giuliano will teach beginner/intermediate mountain dulcimer. This one hour workshop will focus on using rhythmic strumming patterns to add variety and groove to one's playing. Students will apply these techniques by learning an old time tune and will get individualized feedback on their playing. After this workshop students should expect to be familiar with a basic set of rhythms that can be applied to many tunes. Jonah is an expert player whose approach couples a deep love for old time music with a strong technical foundation. Jonah loves to work with players of all levels.

Jonah Giuliano is a Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalist. Originally from Maryland, he grew up playing drums in Baltimore’s experimental scene, and became exposed to traditional music over the course of many summers at Common Ground on the Hill, where he was first introduced to the mountain dulcimer by Susan Boyer Haley. Jonah’s idiosyncratic and largely self-taught approach to dulcimer is informed by an omnivorous musical palette, ranging from Appalachian old time to avant-garde jazz to the works of J.S. Bach.
