Moira Smiley is a widely beloved, folk singer, songwriter and choral composer based in Vermont, USA. The backbone of Moira’s shows are themes of real and metaphorical border crossings - hopeful immigrants, exiles in mourning, or each of us seeking belonging and empathy. Moira’s performances bring elegance and grit to folk-songs, original and ancient. Expect soul-stirring arrangements of Anglo-Celtic ballads, American spirituals, European folk-laments and sharp, poignant original songs that call effortlessly upon the audience to whisper, clap or sing along. Moira plays plain-spoken accompaniment on banjo, accordion, body/hand percussion and piano.

Join Moira in celebrating the release of her new album, The Rhizome Project! This album celebrates the songs that shaped Moira as a young musician, and the ferocious, multi-textural power of a string quartet to surround these old songs and Moira’s new songs in storytelling splendor. Threaded through the ‘chamber-folk’ feeling of the album is Moira’s clear voice - sometimes startling, sometimes soothing - and her quiet, heart-forward words wrapped in arrangements that are simultaneously minimalist and lush.
