LA MANGA

New York Times
“Every so often a band crops up in New York that´s more than just a group with a repertoire, but instead seems intent on using the assets of the city – its confluence of cultures, its wide buffet of performance scenarios — to say something about the durability of a musical lineage, and maybe even expand it. LA MANGA is the latest of these groups”

La Manga is a musical laboratory  that is inspired by cultural manifestations such as Bullerengue, Cumbia and Tambora and the spirit of the modern and ancestral people of the Caribbean coast in Colombia. Honoring Black and Indigenous oral traditions; connecting with the power of tambores Afro-Colombianos (Tambor Alegre, Tambora and llamador) and celebrating life through storytelling and bailes cantaos. This project is the work of a collective of women artists composed of Daniela Serna, Andrea Chavarro; Katherine Ocampo and Lina Fernanda Silva. We enjoy creating and fostering a community of women around these traditions using percussion as a portal to connect these universes.
