Ercan Alkan is a master of the bağlama, the seven-stringed lute played across Anatolia.
Known as “the Quran with strings,” the bağlama is the instrument of Alevi sacred music. Once carried from town to town by wandering bards, it’s still the core of Turkish folk music and even modern Anatolian psychedelic rock.
Join us at Barzakh on Saturday, July 19th, from 3 to 5 pm for a series of weekly bağlama classes.
Students who own bağlamas are encouraged to bring their own instruments. There will be a limited number of extras that can be used during the class – please get in touch to verify their availability.
